Group8 Limited (“Group8”, “we”, “us” or “our”) operates the Love Island Nigeria website at https://www.loveislandnigeria.com. This notice explains how we collect and use personal data when you browse the website, apply to take part, enter a competition, vote, sign up for updates, contact us or buy merchandise. Separate notices or agreements may apply to contestants and people who take part in the television production.
1. Who is responsible for your information?
Group8 Limited is the data controller for the website processing described here. Our contact address is 5B Ayo Jagun Street, off Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, Nigeria. Contact us at hello@loveislandnigeria.com about this notice or your personal data.
2. Information we collect
The information we collect depends on how you use the website. It may include:
- Browsing and device data, such as IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, approximate location, log records and cookie or similar identifiers. If you use embedded videos, podcasts or other media, the relevant platform may also process viewing or listening activity under its own terms.
- Contact and newsletter data, such as your name, email address, preferences and records of your subscription or unsubscribe request.
- Competition data, such as your name, contact details, age confirmation, entry answers, entry timestamp, winner verification details and information needed to deliver a prize. Some prizes may include mobile data or merchandise.
- Voting data, such as your vote, voting timestamp, account or contact identifier, eligibility checks and technical information used to detect duplicate, automated or manipulated votes. The voting page will explain any additional information it requests.
- Application data, such as your name, date of birth or age confirmation, contact details, location, biography, photographs, videos, social media links and answers to casting questions. If you progress, we may request additional information under a separate notice and participation agreement.
- Merchandise order data, such as items ordered, recipient and delivery details, order history, transaction reference and customer-service correspondence. The payment service identified at checkout processes payment details under its own terms and privacy notice; Group8 receives the information needed to administer the order.
- Information you provide when contacting us, reporting a problem or exercising a privacy right.
3. Why we use information
We use personal data only for a stated purpose and an appropriate lawful basis under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Depending on the activity, this may include taking steps at your request, performing a contract, meeting a legal obligation, your consent, or a legitimate interest that we have assessed against your rights.
- To operate, secure and improve the website and diagnose technical problems, and to provide programme news, schedules, countdowns, videos, podcasts and first-look content.
- To receive and assess applications, contact applicants and administer casting. Selection does not happen through this Privacy Notice alone; selected applicants will receive separate production documents.
- To administer competitions, check eligibility, select and contact winners, deliver prizes and keep required records.
- To record and validate votes, prevent abuse and publish results in accordance with the applicable voting rules.
- To process and deliver merchandise orders, answer customer questions and handle returns or complaints.
- To send email updates where you have opted in, and to record and honour your preferences.
- To comply with legal, regulatory, accounting and safety requirements, and to establish or defend legal claims.
Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that took place before withdrawal or processing that has another lawful basis.
4. Who may receive information
We may share personal data with:
- Authorised Group8 employees and production personnel who need the information for their work.
- ITV or other format-rights owners and their authorised production representatives, where needed to assess applications, administer format requirements or deliver the programme, subject to the relevant agreements and notices.
- Service providers working for us, such as website hosting, email, analytics, application management, voting, video or podcast platforms, payment, delivery and customer-support providers.
- Prize suppliers, including mobile-network or merchandise suppliers, but only to the extent needed to verify or deliver a prize.
- Professional advisers, regulators, courts, law-enforcement agencies or other parties where the law requires or permits disclosure.
We do not sell personal data. We will not give a competition entrant’s or applicant’s contact details to a sponsor for its own marketing unless we explain this separately and obtain any consent required by law.
5. Hosting and international transfers
Our website is hosted through Hostinger. Hosting, backups, content delivery and support may involve processing in Nigeria or other countries, depending on the services and configuration. We use appropriate transfer mechanisms and safeguards where required by Nigerian data-protection law. Contact us at hello@loveislandnigeria.com for information about international processing related to a particular website feature.
Website access and security restrictions may be aimed at Nigeria. They do not by themselves mean that personal data is stored only in Nigeria.
6. How long we keep information
We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, taking account of legal, accounting, safety, audit and dispute requirements. When it is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it, unless the law requires us to keep it longer. In particular:
- Security logs are retained only as long as needed to protect the website, investigate incidents and meet legal requirements.
- Newsletter details are retained until you unsubscribe; minimal suppression records may be kept to honour your opt-out and demonstrate compliance.
- Competition entries and winner records are retained for administration, prize fulfilment, audit, legal and dispute purposes, then deleted or anonymised when no longer needed.
- Unsuccessful applications are retained through the relevant casting cycle and then deleted or anonymised when no longer needed; we keep them longer for future casting only with your separate agreement.
- Voting records are retained for the period needed to validate results, investigate complaints and meet legal requirements, then deleted or anonymised.
- Order and payment records are retained for the periods required to administer purchases, returns, accounting, tax and legal obligations.
7. Your rights
Subject to the Nigeria Data Protection Act and applicable limits, you may ask us to confirm whether we process your personal data, access it, correct it, request deletion or restriction, object to certain processing, request portability where available, withdraw consent, or raise a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. You can make a request at hello@loveislandnigeria.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
8. Children and age limits
Applications to take part in Love Island Nigeria and entry into website competitions are limited to people aged 18 or older, unless a specific competition notice expressly provides a different lawful eligibility rule. The website is not intended to collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal data, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.
9. Security and changes
We use technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, alteration or disclosure. No online service can guarantee absolute security. We may update this notice when our practices or legal requirements change. We will publish the latest version and its effective date on the website.
